A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent reactions on court had led some to question if his ability to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent saved four early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner earned victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
